RULE OF THE WEEK

11-ON THE SAME TACK,OVERLAPPED.

When two boats are on the same tack and overlapped,a windward boat shall keep clear of a leeward boat.

18.3-TACKING WHEN APPROACHING A MARK.

If two boats were approaching a mark on opposite tacks and one of them changes tack,and as a result is subject to rule 13 in the zone when the other is fetching the mark,rule 18.2 does not thereafter apply.The boat that changes tack

a) Shall not cause the other boat to sail above close hauled to avoid her or to prevent the other boat from passing the mark on the required side.

b) Shall give mark room if the other boat becomes overlapped inside her

DAY 3 OF THE FROZEN THUMBS SERIES AT THE NANAIMO YACHT CLUB WAS A FOG-FEST WITH BIG CURRENTS AND SHIFTY WINDS.12 A-SAIL RACES WERE RUN READ ALL ABOUT IT ON THE RESULTS PAGE.

BOB #03 AND KEN #34 (THE PORT TACK GAFFER) USE SOME TWIST TO BATTLE UPHILL FEB 5TH AT NYC

THE RC OCEAN RACE OFTEN CALLED "THE MOST CHALLENGING RADIO-CONTROLLED SAILBOAT RACE ON THE PLANET" IS SET FOR APRIL 14,2012 AT THE WORLD FAMOUS DINGHY DOCK FLOATING PUB AND RESAURANT. THIS FOURTH ANNUAL RACE IS STARTING TO FILL UP SO SEE THE "NOTICE OF RACE" AND  ENTER NOW  BY SIMPLY FILLING OUT THE ENTRY FORM ON THE  "RACE INFO" PAGE AND HIT SUBMIT. WE HAVE A LIMITED NUMBER OF VOLUNTEER CHASE BOATS AVAILABLE SO ACT FAST AND DON'T BE LEFT OUT. OPEN TO ALL CLASSES.

 DAY ONE OF THE  FROZEN THUMBS SERIES WAS JUST AS EXPECTED,FIERCLY COMPETITIVE AND COLD. GOOD STARTS AND PLAYING THE SHIFTS CORRECTLY WERE KEY TO A GOOD RESULT.  .SSW WINDS FROM THE TOP OF THE A-SAIL TO NOTHING WERE ALL OVER THE COURSE. PAUL,#36 STARTED OUT THE DAY FAST WITH 1-2-2 FINISHES. ANGELA 90,WON THE NEXT TWO RACES. KENNY 93 WON THE NEXT TWO,AND BRUCE 70,WON THE 8TH RACE. AFTER 9 RACES, BOB,03 HAD THE LEAD WITH 17 POINTS, PAUL WAS 10 POINTS BEHIND AND KENNY WAS TWO MORE POINTS BACK. PAUL TURNED ON THE HEAT IN THE LAST THREE RACES FINISHING 1-1-2 PUTTING HIM TWO POINTS AHEAD OF BOB FOR THE OVERALL WIN. OUR FLEET IS GETTING SO TIGHT THAT ONE LITTLE  MISTAKE CAN DROP YOU 5 PLACES IN AN INSTANT. LOOK FOREWARD TO MORE INTENSE ONE-DESIGN RACING JANUARY 21ST AT THE LAGOON IN MAFFEO-SUTTON PARK WHERE DAY TWO OF OUR TRAVELLING SERIES GETS UNDER WAY AT NOON.

  

 

 8 brave souls showed up Dec 26th for the BOXING DAY BOWOUT RACE. Bg wind and waves was on the agenda and keeping our portable clubhouse and our boats on their feet was a battle. It was a C,and D-sail day with the D-sail proving a little faster in most cases. 11 races were run and Tim #80 had his boat dialed in perfectly  and won 7 of the races and finished 2nd in the other 4 for a total of 11 points. kenny #93 was second with 23 points,and Bruce #70 was third with 31.  Newcomer Chad sailed really well and clinched fourth place with 45 points just one point ahead of Ken #34. Doug #04 had to leave early but managed some decent finishes,even though over power with the C-sail. 2011 fleet champion Bob #03 showed up late but managed the C well,winning  one of the races Tim did'nt. Arne started out well with a 2nd,but had some electrical issues and had to retire . See full results on the results page

                  Sunshine, wind and warm temperatures were on the menu today for the 10 RC Laser sailors that showed up for the 2011 fleet 17 championship at the Nanaiomo yacht club.  11 races were sailed in this one-thow-out regatta with (mostly) B-sails in these perfect conditions. At the end of the day only two points seperated first to third place.Third place with 26 points went to Paul #36,Bruce #70 lost out on the tie-breaker to Bob #03 who is now the 2011 Fleet Champion. KEN KEITH #34,SLAYED THE COMPETITION ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE FALL SERIES DECEMBER THIRD. GREAT STARTS ALL DAY,AND AMAZING BOAT SPEED IN THE LIGHT AIR CONDITIONS MADE HIM UNBEATABLE ON THE DAY.    PAUL #36 WON THE OVERALL SERIES WITH THREE FIRSTS AND A SECOND,PRETTY DARN GOOD FOR THE NEWEST MEMBER OF FLEET 17
